The Department of Mechanical Engineering successfully organized a three-day hands-on workshop from 2nd to 4th October 2026, designed to strengthen practical data analysis capabilities and enhance professional skills essential for engineering practice.
The workshop focused on Minitab-based statistical analysis. Each concept was reinforced through hands-on exercises and case-based learning, drawing on real engineering datasets from machining, water treatment, and manufacturing contexts. The training emphasized the application of statistical tools to real-world quality control and decision-making scenarios.
Participants learned:
- Basic statistics and normality testing
- Hypothesis testing using t-tests and ANOVA
- Acceptance sampling (AQL, RQL, OC curves)
- Control charts for variables and attributes
- Process capability analysis (Cp, Cpk)
- Non-normal data analysis using transformations and non-parametric tests
The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Singye Wangchuk. The sessions were delivered across three days, with each module building on the previous one to ensure a structured learning experience.
The workshop concluded with participants reporting increased confidence in data analysis, improved understanding of statistical quality control, and a stronger foundation for future academic and professional work.
